Are 327 and 350 blocks the same?
The difference in the displacement comes from the crankshaft stroke.
The 327 uses a 3.25 inch stroke, where the 350 uses a longer 3.48 inch stroke(thats what makes it bigger).
Depending on the year of the block, the biggest difference in the block itself is the main journal size..
How can I tell if my 350 is a 4 bolt main?
The casting number is a good start, though, and the serial number stamped on the front of the block will help, too, by identifying the original aplication. Other than that, you really need to pull to pan to know for sure. Re: How can I tell if my 350 is a 4 bolt main?
Can you convert a 2 bolt main to a 4 bolt main?
It’s not worth it to take a factory two bolt and turn it into a 4 bolt unless you know someone who owns a machine shop and can do the work for free. You can get a used four bolt block for way cheaper than the four bolt conversion parts and labor charges.
How much HP can a 4 bolt main 350 handle?
1. 4-bolt blocks with OEM main bolts are good to 475 HP, and are good to 7200 RPM. 2.
How much horsepower does a 350 4 bolt main have?
Stock 350. The four-bolt main 350 with two-barrel carburetor came with 8.5:1 compression, and was good for 145 horsepower at 3,800 rpm and 250 foot-pounds of torque at 2,200 rpm.
How much HP can you get from a 327?
Rated at 375 hp, the fuel-injected 327 was a high-winding screamer, as satisfying to drive as any big-block. At the other end of the spectrum, the 327 was also offered at much more pedestrian power levels, as low as 210 hp (gross).
Will Vortec heads fit a 327?
The L31 Vortec heads will bolt onto any Gen I small block. Your 327 isn’t any different than any other Gen I small block built from 1955 thru 2002. The main difference with using the Vortec heads is the different intake bolt pattern as already mentioned.
Is a 400 small block better than a 350?
A small block 350 and a 400 have an identical block design. Most accessories will fit either engine. The major difference is found in the casting numbers and the way they are balanced. Most 350 cubic inch engines are internally balanced whereas the 400 engines are not.
Is a 4 bolt main better than a 2 bolt main?
Any time you increase horsepower, torque and cylinder pressure, you increase crankshaft load. It would take quite a bit more stress to rip-out 4 bolts than it would just 2, so that’s why the 4 bolt mains are stronger than the 2 bolt mains.
Why is a 327 better than a 350?
In the vehicle, it’s more of a matter of “gearing” than revs. A 327 with it’s shorter stroke would need shorter gears so it can GET to its revs, where a 350, with its slightly longer stroke and more torque output will pull a little taller gear than the 327 will.
Will 327 heads fit on a 350?
They are perfect for a 350. Both the 327 and the 350 have a 4″ bore so they like the same heads. Old heads like that will have softer valve seats, so if you want them to last a long time, you should either replace the seats or run leaded gas in the engine.
Can I use 305 heads on a 350?
305 heads on a 350 will raise your compression a good deal, maybe even too much for pump gas if you have flat tops or domed. I would go with 350 heads if I were you. If you have flat top pistons a set of 350 heads would be best.
How do you tell if a 454 is a 4 bolt main?
Chevynut wrote: “You can tell if it’s a 4-bolt main by looking for an oil cooler port above the oil filter boss. If it has an extra plug there, it’s probably a 4-bolt block.”
Can you stroke a 327?
Your 327 has a 4 inch bore, so yes, you could make it a 355 or a 383. (also a 302, for that matter). A 1965 327 has a small journal crank, that is a factory “forged” piece. Your engine builder is making a 355 or a 383 by changing the crankshaft to a longer stroke, and replacing the pistons to match.
When did Chevy stop making the 327?
The last iteration of the 327 appeared in 1969 with a two-barrel carburetor and a 9-to-1 compression ratio that produced 235 horsepower and 325 foot pounds of torque, but by then another Chevrolet small-block had already appeared on the market and had begun stealing what thunder the 327 had left.
Is the 327 a good engine?
Chevy 327 engines are some of the best ever produced. They’ve powered everything from boats, hot rods, sprint cars, pickups with campers, and drag race race cars. I was in awe, reading Hot Rod Magazine in the sixties, when they described getting 1 horsepower per cubic inch out of the 327.
Is a 5.3 Chevy engine a 327?
the 5.3 is a 327 cubic inch motor, the 6.0 liter motor is 364 cubic inch.
